The College of St. Scholastica is a private college with its main campus located in Duluth, which is a port city in the US state of Minnesota, serving as the county seat of St. Louis County, having a population estimated at a number of over 84 000 inhabitants, according to the 2009 census.
The college was established in 1912 and was founded by a group of pioneering Benedictine Sisters who offered college courses to six young women. Today, the school has an enrollment of more than 3300 men and women, to whom it offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various areas of study, that lead to bachelor's and master's degrees (and two doctoral degrees).
The athletic teams at the College of St. Scholastica are known as the Saints and they compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, which is part of the NCAA's Division III, with 8 women's teams and 9 men's (except the men's ice hockey team and Nordic skiing). Their distinctive colors are Royal blue and gold.
